Salome Zourabichvili, the fifth President of Georgia, has reacted to the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections in Hungary—specifically the defeat of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Kremlin-aligned team.

The politician emphasized that “dictators leave one after another,” sooner or later, but they do leave. She added that nothing in this world lasts forever.

“Dictators leave one after another! Some—peacefully (after all, they are civilized Europeans), others—by the sword and war! But they leave! Nothing is eternal in this world! This is the sign of Easter: after death and injustice come life and a bright day! Congratulations!” Zourabichvili wrote.

According to preliminary vote counts for the parliamentary elections held in Hungary on April 12, the opposition Tisza party, led by Péter Magyar, is currently in the lead.

Magyar stated that Hungary’s incumbent Prime Minister and leader of the ruling Fidesz party, Viktor Orbán, has already conceded defeat and congratulated him on his victory.

Orbán, for his part, noted that the election results are clear, although painful for him. He also stated that his party would continue to work for the benefit of Hungary while in opposition.

EU leaders have already congratulated Magyar, including French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who emphasized that “Hungary has made a choice in favor of Europe.”
