The ban on serving drinks in plastic bottles in cafes and restaurants remains in effect and will come into force on July 1, 2026, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
The environmental agency clarified the implementation timelines for regulations aimed at reducing plastic consumption.
As of April 1, 2026, the following are prohibited:
- the production (excluding export), import, and/or market placement of plastic forks, knives, spoons, chopsticks, plates, straws, drink stirrers, as well as food containers and cups made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and their lids;
- the purchase of plastic cups, containers, and drinks in plastic bottles with a volume of up to 3 liters through public procurement.
Starting July 1 of this year, catering establishments will be prohibited from providing ready-to-eat food to consumers using single-use plastic food containers and cups. The provision of drinks to consumers in plastic bottles by catering facilities will also be banned.
From February 1, 2031, the production of drinks in plastic bottles (excluding production for export), their import, and market placement will be prohibited.
The ban will not apply to drinking water in volumes of 3 liters or more, nor to other beverages in volumes of 20 liters or more.
