“Federalists” added to list of parties “Dream” seeks to ban

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has announced that “Georgian Dream” (the ruling party) will file a new constitutional lawsuit regarding the banning of political parties. The “Federalists,” led by Tamar Chergoleishvili and Giga Bokeria, will be added to the list, while the previous lawsuit will be withdrawn.

The Speaker noted that the government’s opponents—”radical opposition parties”—have formed an “Opposition Alliance” with shared strategic goals and objectives. He claimed their aim is “non-recognition of the Constitution, non-recognition of constitutional institutions, the undermining of elections, and the general disruption of democratic processes and non-recognition of democracy.” He further alleged that among them are those who organized the attempted overthrow of the government on October 4, 2025.

He recalled that “Dream” had previously stated this would serve as grounds for revising the constitutional lawsuit to ban parties—the “collective ‘National Movement'” (United National Movement)—which is currently before the Constitutional Court.

“Therefore, today we are filing a new constitutional lawsuit with the Constitutional Court and simultaneously withdrawing the previous one, which was filed with the demand to ban unconstitutional parties. We are submitting a new, adjusted constitutional lawsuit in which we will increase the number of parties.

Specifically, while the original lawsuit concerned three parties—the ‘National Movement,’ ‘Coalition for Change,’ and ‘Lelo’—the new constitutional lawsuit will add the ‘Federalists’ to these three,” Papuashvili stated.

The head of the Georgian parliament added that there are other parties in this “Opposition Alliance,” but their influence on politics is negligible.

“Today we know that the leaders of this alliance are Mikheil Saakashvili, Giga Bokeria, and Nika Gvaramia. These are three high-ranking representatives of the ‘National Movement’ criminal regime who, having reunited today in the ‘National Movement’ alliance, are trying to turn the country into a puppet state,” Papuashvili declared.
