Police have detained Georgian activist Lazare Grigoriadis. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD), he was detained under Article 151 of the Criminal Code, which stipulates liability for threats of murder, infliction of bodily harm, or destruction of property.
According to available information, Grigoriadis allegedly threatened to kill employees of a certain bar.
The Georgian service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty contacted a member of Grigoriadis’s family, who stated that he had arrived in Georgia five days ago and left his home for the first time on the night of April 23. The family was informed of his detention today, April 24, at approximately 08:00; a fight was cited as the reason.
During the mass anti-government protests in March 2023, after which “Mechta” (the Georgian Dream party) was forced to withdraw the law, Grigoriadis was arrested. The 22-year-old activist was accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at police officers. Approximately a year later, Lazare was sentenced to 9 years in prison, but President Salome Zourabichvili pardoned him on the same day.
