“In the near future, we may see even greater food price increases,” stated Lasha Rizhamadze, President of the Distributors Association, in an interview with the online news outlet BusinessPressNews, commenting on the impact of rising fuel prices.
Against the backdrop of disrupted shipping due to the conflict in the Middle East, global crude oil prices are rising. Simultaneously, fuel prices on the local market have been increasing for over a month, driving up costs for distributors.
As Lasha Rizhamadze notes, the impact of current processes has already begun to gradually reflect in food prices; however, there is an expectation that price growth will continue in the coming period, as there are no signs of fuel price stabilization.
“The rise in fuel prices and the effect of disrupted transport are not yet fully reflected in prices. As is known, price changes are already gradually manifesting, but in the near future, we may see even more expensive products. Unfortunately, we do not expect fuel prices to stabilize significantly in the current period.
Companies are trying their best to restrain the impact on prices at this stage; however, in several cases within the overall chain—which includes increased and disrupted international logistics costs—this certainly still has a certain influence. And if this trend continues in this manner, the impact on prices will become even more significant,” stated Lasha Rizhamadze.
