Georgian Prosecutor’s Office Denounces “Attack” on Prosecutor in Palace “Storming” Case

prokuratura News

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has responded to a report by the opposition television channel TV Pirveli concerning Tamar Bezhuashvili, the prosecutor in the case involving the storming of the presidential palace, labeling it “yet another piece of disinformation.”

The agency stated that over the past month and a half, the TV company has for the second time deliberately prepared a segment on the business activities of the prosecutor’s father, groundlessly linking them to Tamar Bezhuashvili’s professional duties.

The Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that the respondents, Giorgi Berishvili and Teimuraz Karmazanashvili, are making defamatory statements against Bezhuashvili and her family members. Both individuals are themselves convicted or accused in several criminal cases involving tax evasion and fraud.

“It is completely unclear how this is connected to the criminal case regarding the storming of the presidential palace. Instead of professionally examining the criminal case in court based on the principle of adversarial proceedings, the media is deliberately attacking the prosecutor and conducting an absolutely groundless disinformation campaign.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia will not tolerate such attacks on prosecutors in high-profile criminal cases aimed at discrediting the prosecutor and the agency, and will ensure an appropriate response.

We also note that such a groundless and targeted campaign will not influence or hinder the administration of objective justice,” the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia stated.
