When asked by the media whether previous relations are being maintained and communication with the Iranian ambassador takes place when specific concerns arise, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili replied, “Yes.”
This refers to a social media statement made by the Iranian Ambassador, Seyyed Ali Mojani, and the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ (MFA) stance on the matter.
Bochorishvili stated that “dialogue is conducted with all ambassadors whenever such a need arises.”
“If you are interested in whether we maintain the same relations with the Iranian ambassador and communicate when we have certain concerns, I would say yes.
The ministry has its own resources for conducting diplomatic activity and always does what is necessary. At all levels, as required, dialogue is maintained with all ambassadors with whom such a need arises,” the minister said.
As a reminder, on March 31, the Iranian ambassador issued a statement saying that “when some countries, intentionally or hastily, provide their space and territory to external adventurers, they will sooner or later feel the consequences within their own country.”
According to him, “those who supported Donald Trump yesterday are forced to pay for that decision today.”
Following this statement, there were calls to summon the Iranian diplomat to the Georgian MFA. The Iranian ambassador did indeed visit the ministry; however, according to him, he initiated the meeting himself.
