MEP Rasa Juknevičienė has reacted to the news of the release of Andrzej Poczobut, a Belarusian opposition journalist, recognized political prisoner, and Sakharov Prize laureate.

“Great news on the release of Andrzej Poczobut! But another 2025 Sakharov Prize laureate, Mzia Amaglobeli, remains imprisoned in Georgia, and international representatives have no opportunity to visit her. The European Parliament has stated clearly: there is no place for political prisoners in an EU candidate country,” the politician wrote on X.

As a reminder, Belarusian opposition journalist and political prisoner Andrzej Poczobut was included in a prisoner exchange between Belarus and Poland taking place on April 28.

The exchange was conducted on a “five-for-five” basis.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko ordered the inclusion of Andrzej Poczobut in the exchange “taking into account the personal request” of his mother, as well as the head of the Union of Poles in Belarus, Andżelika Borys.
