To achieve free and democratic elections, the consolidation of the opposition and society is necessary, stated the fifth President of Georgia during a Facebook live stream. Salome Zourabichvili reiterated once again that a victory over “Georgian Dream” (the ruling party) is possible through free elections.
“First and foremost, I am not talking about the unification of parties; parties exist so that each has its own identity and its own vision, which will then be reflected in elections once they are fair and free.
First—before we reach that point, we undoubtedly face elections that we will have to fight for. They require a different level of unity; they require the consolidation of all societal forces against this one-party, authoritarian, pro-Russian regime. This is the true unification, and this is where we must prevail. Afterward, the field will open for all the various parties, and society itself will choose which worldview and program best suits the country’s future.
This unification must encompass all segments—parties, of course, but not only parties. It is a broad consolidation which, incidentally, ‘Georgian Dream’ itself is largely facilitating, as all its decisions are effectively aimed at turning various parts of society against it and fueling discontent. In this sense, a unification for the struggle is already taking shape. There are too many issues causing serious concern within society,” Salome Zourabichvili stated.
