Georgia Toughens Penalties for Traffic Violations

On May 1, a series of legislative amendments regarding traffic regulations came into force. Specifically, sanctions for several violations, including unfastened seatbelts and speeding, have been tightened.

“Every year in Georgia, hundreds of people die or suffer serious injuries as a result of road accidents. In 2025 alone, 469 people died in traffic accidents in Georgia, and another 8,191 were injured.

The tightening of current sanctions is based on a comprehensive analysis of the causes of road accidents and the high mortality rate on Georgia’s roads.
