Tazo Datunashvili, Executive Secretary of “Lelo – Strong Georgia,” has described the Price Regulation Commission as a “dirty propaganda stunt.” “We have witnessed yet another act of political schizophrenia,” he stated, commenting on the commission’s findings.

“The parliamentary commission for the study of prices, composed of millionaires, has concluded its work. Naturally, with zero results, as expected. Instead, we should apparently expect the appointment of ‘kolkhoz-style’ (Soviet-era collective farm) party directors in various districts to manage collection points for domestic products. I am not making this up—all these terms were used at the commission’s final meeting and are contained in that 104-page document of complete idiocy they call a conclusion.

No effective steps, not a single concrete proposal capable of influencing price reduction—which was the primary goal of creating the commission—was presented.

The commission, which was supposed to support small local businesses while lowering prices, spoke of structural changes, supply chain issues, and transportation problems, but failed to offer a single concrete solution or any effective step that the state could actually influence.

On the contrary, there were absolutely hollow, incompetent recommendations reflecting an elementary ignorance of economics—claiming there are supply chain issues, structural logistics problems, a lack of a judiciary, that entrepreneurs cannot find justice, and that Georgia is generally an import-dependent country.

The commission and its report clearly demonstrate that the government not only lacks political will but also lacks the economic vision and intellectual capacity to offer citizens anything effective.

Following the commission’s work, we have 7.5% inflation, rising prices for all food products, a 1-lari increase in fuel prices, and a 30% hike in electricity tariffs. Further price increases for all goods and services are expected, and the cost of government services has risen. This is the result of the commission’s work. The Prime Minister, who, not being in his right mind, claims to buy a pork-beef hybrid for 10 lari per half-kilogram. This is another act of political schizophrenia. The commission chairman, a millionaire, could not even pronounce these absurdities correctly with his trembling voice. Meanwhile, Georgian citizens see meat at 40 lari and two tomatoes for 10 lari.

A three-month dirty propaganda stunt cannot pass without political accountability. The responsibility for this lies with Irakli Kobakhidze. Let him show political courage for once and admit that his adventure has failed,” Datunashvili stated.
