Georgia Increases Electricity Subsidies for Vulnerable and Large Families

tarifi News

Georgia’s Ministry of Health has announced an increase in electricity subsidies for socially vulnerable and large families. According to the ministry, the measure is intended to ensure that their electricity expenses remain at previous levels following the introduction of new tariffs.

Under the government’s decision, families with rating scores below 70,000 will receive an additional subsidy of 5 tetri per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Consequently, they will be compensated for the difference between the tariffs in effect in December 2020 and July 2015, receiving a total of 8.5 tetri per kWh instead of the previous 3.5 tetri.

For families with ratings between 70,000 and 150,000, a subsidy has been established for 200 kWh of electricity—also at 8.5 tetri per kWh, whereas the previous compensation was 3.5 tetri.

These changes apply to all benefit recipients across the country, with the exception of Tbilisi.

Separate measures have been introduced for large families. They will now receive an additional subsidy of 10 lari. As a result, total support will increase: instead of 20 lari for electricity payments, such families will receive 30 lari, plus an additional 10 lari for each subsequent child.

The changes have already come into effect, with the government decision active since April 1.
