An expanded council of the Georgian Orthodox Church, at which the new Catholicos-Patriarch will be elected, will take place on May 11 at 1:00 PM at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi.
“Organizational and technical details related to the holding of the council will be announced later,” according to a statement from the Patriarchate published on social media.
As a reminder, the Holy Synod has selected three candidates for the patriarchal throne. The contenders for the highest religious office of the 142nd Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia are:
- Metropolitan Shio (Mudzhiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsku;
- Metropolitan Iov (Akiashvili) of Urbnisi and Ruisi;
- Metropolitan Grigol (Berbichashvili) of Poti and Khobi.
