Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, met with Angelo Farrugia, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Malta. According to the parliament’s press service, Papuashvili spoke positively of the relations between Georgia and Malta at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
“He warmly recalled his official visit to Malta in 2023. Shalva Papuashvili noted Malta’s special role in defending the rules-based international order and emphasized the importance of maintaining ongoing dialogue.
The Speaker expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Malta for its support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The sides discussed bilateral cooperation between the two nations, including at the parliamentary level.
The parties also discussed the significance of regional platforms amid the instability of the international order. In this context, the importance of the activities of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) was highlighted.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the first summit of speakers of parliaments of member states and partners of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, currently being held in Budva, Montenegro.
The parliamentary delegation, led by the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament in his capacity as President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), includes Irakli Mezurnishvili, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy and Head of the Permanent Delegation of the Parliament of Georgia to the PABSEC,” the official statement reads.
