The Patriarchate of Georgia held a meeting with parents of children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The parents had previously sent several letters to the Patriarchate requesting assistance.
As one of the parents, Kakha Tsikarishvili, stated before the meeting, they are calling on the Patriarchate to act as a mediator in communications with the authorities to ensure that resources are allocated to help the children.
“Unfortunately, we have no direct communication with the authorities; they do not meet with us. Therefore, we initially planned to go to the residence of [Bidzina] Ivanishvili (former Prime Minister and founder of the ruling party). We were prohibited from going there, after which we came to the Patriarchate, where the meeting on May 6 did not take place. Subsequently, the Patriarchate contacted us and informed us that they would receive us.
Today we came to meet with a representative of the Patriarchate. Our request is for the Patriarchate to act as a mediator in our communication with the authorities,” said Kakha Tsikarishvili.
It should be noted that the parents are demanding that the state provide the necessary medication for the children’s treatment and have been holding protests outside the government administration building for several weeks to press this demand.
