EU Ambassador: Anti-European rhetoric continues, further damaging friendship

“We do not lose hope that one day Georgia will become a member of the European Union, and therefore we are ready to resume joint work to achieve this goal,” stated the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, at an event dedicated to Europe Day.

As the diplomat noted, it is precisely its uniqueness and rich culture that make Georgia a source of admiration for Europe.

“Today is Europe Day. On this day, we celebrate European unity and our long-standing friendship with Georgia, with you. Since the restoration of independence, we have stood by Georgia, by you, as a steadfast and reliable partner. The European Union helps Georgia move forward and, most importantly, changes people’s lives for the better.

And if the question still arises as to what Europe is – let me say: Europe is a space of diversity, where every state not only preserves but also strengthens its culture, identity, and traditions.

It is precisely through its uniqueness and rich culture that Georgia evokes Europe’s admiration. We find inspiration in your glorious history. However, for membership in the European family, this is not enough. Progress on the path to the European Union is based on democratic development. Unfortunately, Georgia has recently suspended its movement towards the European Union.

Anti-European rhetoric continues, which further damages the friendship built over years and the hopes of generations. Together we are stronger than apart.

We do not lose hope that one day Georgia will become a member of the European Union. Therefore, we are ready to resume joint work for the sake of achieving this goal.

EU membership is the best way to preserve peace and prosperity. This is confirmed by the nearly 80-year history of the European Union’s existence. Georgia’s future belongs to the country itself and its people, to you. Forward, Georgia, forward!” stated Paweł Herczyński.
