Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the 2028 parliamentary elections will be conducted in accordance with current legislation, which, according to him, fully complies with international standards.

Kobakhidze made these remarks in response to the six key conditions put forward by the “Opposition Alliance” for holding “fair and free elections.”

“Regarding the 2028 parliamentary elections, these elections will be held under the current legislation, and I give this promise to everyone! The current legislation fully complies with international standards. We will hold the parliamentary elections on October 28, 2028, in accordance with the current legislation,” emphasized the head of the Georgian government.

It should be noted that the “Opposition Alliance” set out six demands for holding free and fair elections in Georgia. Opponents of the government believe that meeting these requirements will restore public trust in the electoral process, ultimately leading to a change of power in the country.

Representatives of nine opposition forces stated that, before discussing free and fair elections, it is necessary to release political prisoners, terminate politically motivated criminal cases, and repeal repressive laws that, as noted, have effectively destroyed or seriously endangered democratic institutions, opposition media, political parties, civil organizations, and other vital instruments of democracy.
