Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, in Italy.
It is reported that on the same day, the Georgian parliamentary delegation held an audience with Pope Leo XIV.
Georgia’s European integration was among the key topics discussed. According to the Parliament of Georgia, Cardinal Pietro Parolin expressed interest in the current challenges and issues within this process.
The parties also discussed the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions — Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.
Particular attention was paid to Georgia’s role in regional security, specifically its peacekeeping potential in the context of the Armenia-Azerbaijan settlement and broader stabilization processes in the region.
The meetings were attended by Tornike Cheishvili, First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee, and David Mekvabishvili, Georgia’s Ambassador to the Vatican.
