The State Security Service (SSG) reports that two Georgian citizens, who were previously illegally detained by Russian occupation forces near the village of Tsitelubani in the Gori Municipality, have been released.
They are already in territory controlled by the country’s central authorities.
The agency noted that all available mechanisms were utilized to secure their release, including the “hotline” of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia.
The SSG also stated that it continues to work toward the release of all Georgian citizens who remain in illegal detention within the occupied territories.
Meanwhile, authorities in the occupied Tskhinvali region claimed that the Georgian citizens “intentionally violated the state border” on May 15.
They are Nikoloz Tadtaev and Imeda Tsetskhladze.
“On May 18, the violators were expelled from the republic and fined,” officials in Tskhinvali noted.
