A civil memorial service was held on May 18–19 at the Sameba Cathedral in Tbilisi for 11 individuals whose remains were transferred from occupied Abkhazia.

The group included two servicemen and nine civilians. All of them perished during the war in Abkhazia in 1992–1993.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze paid tribute to the deceased and expressed his condolences to their families.

Through the cooperation between the Office of the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), within the framework of a coordination mechanism involving the Georgian and Sokhumi sides, it was possible to identify and return the remains of 11 people previously considered missing to their families.

By the decision of their families, the remains will be buried in various regions of Georgia in ancestral cemeteries.
