The “Gakharia for Georgia” party is initiating a draft resolution in parliament in response to the so-called agreement on “deepening allied interaction,” signed between Moscow and Tskhinvali, as well as Russia’s ongoing policy of annexing Georgian regions. This was announced at a briefing by party MP Shalva Kereselidze.
The Parliament of Georgia, he explained, must provide a political and legal assessment of the so-called agreement and take a tougher stance on Moscow’s actions regarding the occupied territories.
Kereselidze urged parliament not to remain silent and to support the resolution condemning the annexation of Georgia’s territories.
The party is also appealing to the government, demanding that it end its inaction, resume active diplomatic work, and strengthen cooperation with international partners to ensure that the issue of Georgia’s occupied territories remains permanently on the agenda of the international community.
The politician added that the agreement signed on May 9 of this year between Moscow and the de facto authorities of Tskhinvali is viewed by the party as another stage of the de facto annexation of the Tskhinvali region. He noted that this document entails deeper integration of the Georgian region with Russia in key areas—from economy and transport to defense and the de facto foreign policy of the Tskhinvali “regime.” This, as emphasized, poses a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
Kereselidze also stated that against the backdrop of these developments, the “Georgian Dream” authorities are maintaining a silent stance, while parliament remains the only platform for a political assessment of the situation.
“Today, as Russia continues its seizure of Georgian territories, our duty is to be clear and principled in defending the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the country,” Shalva Kereselidze stated.
As a reminder, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament) a bill to ratify the agreement on deepening the so-called allied interaction between Russia and the occupied Tskhinvali region (so-called South Ossetia). The document was published in the electronic database of the lower house of the Russian parliament.
The agreement was signed in Moscow on May 9, 2026. It provides for expanding cooperation between the so-called parties in the fields of defense and security, economy, infrastructure, and social policy.
