The German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, stated that May 26, 1918, symbolises the Georgian people’s aspiration for freedom and democracy.

Congratulating Georgia on its Independence Day, he noted that Germany supports everyone who stands for a free, peaceful, and European Georgia.

“May 26, 1918, reflects the Georgian people’s aspiration for freedom and democracy — warm congratulations on Georgia’s Independence Day,” the diplomat wrote.

The German Embassy’s statement emphasised that Berlin’s official position remains unchanged.

“On May 26, 1918, with the declaration of Georgia’s independence, a new chapter in its history began, one imbued with the aspiration for freedom and democracy. Today, just as then, Germany stands with all those who advocate for a free, peaceful, and European Georgia. Happy Independence Day, Georgia!” Fischer concluded.
