A protest rally organized by the “Opposition Alliance” is underway outside the Georgian parliament.
One of the leaders of the political coalition, Giga Lemonjava, announced the launch of a fundraising campaign to support the families of those detained during the pro-European protests in November–December 2024. According to him, a QR code has already been set up to facilitate donations.
He urged participants and onlookers to support the initiative, emphasizing that “solidarity and mutual support” are the primary means of achieving their goal.
“I want to send my greetings from here to the political prisoners and say to each of them: this struggle will only end when you are free and when Georgia is free, because your freedom and the freedom of this country are closely intertwined. Until then, the struggle will not stop. Freedom to the prisoners of the regime!” Lemonjava declared.
The participants marched from Building I of Tbilisi State University (TSU) to Rustaveli Avenue. Along the way, the protesters sang the Georgian national anthem, holding Georgian and EU flags.
The rally outside the parliament was joined by leaders and representatives of the parties making up the “Opposition Alliance,” as well as other citizens. The organizers brought sound amplification equipment to the demonstration site and are addressing the crowd. The Tbilisi City Hall had previously denied them permission to do so, and no authorization had been granted by the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs either.
