The Office of the Georgian Ombudsman has issued a statement regarding police violence against a citizen in the Kombinat district of the city of Gori, calling on the Prosecutor’s Office to conduct an objective and effective investigation into the case.

The Public Defender will monitor the progress of the case within its mandate.

“The Public Defender of Georgia is responding to the disturbing footage circulating in public sources showing violence by law enforcement officers against citizens in Gori, and condemns any unlawful actions by the police, especially instances of ill-treatment.

According to a public statement by the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, an investigation has been launched into this incident under subparagraph ‘b’ of Part 3 of Article 333 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which entails exceeding official authority with the use of violence.
