The German Embassy stated that for decades, the FRG has been a “major and leading” supporter of Georgia’s defense forces, and everything else is disinformation.
The diplomatic mission made these comments in a letter responding to a statement by Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, who claimed that “the German ambassador himself would not have wanted to attend the event dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day, because he usually receives oaths from ‘squadrons of hate’.”
The embassy urged fact-checking and emphasized that Germany does not participate in every domestic political dispute in Georgia, but has supported its defense forces for decades and intends to continue this cooperation.
“This is easy to verify with the Ministry of Defense of Georgia,” the letter reads.
Separately, the embassy stated that Germany’s goal is to continue friendly cooperation with Georgia, adding that “everything else is disinformation.”
The embassy did not specify whether German Ambassador Peter Fischer attended the event dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day, and if not, for what reason he was absent.
Notably, media reports indicated that German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer did not attend the event. Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated that invitations had been sent to everyone.
