President of Moldova Maia Sandu has received the fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili.
Sandu presented Zourabichvili with the Order of the Republic. The award was bestowed upon the opposition politician back on May 26, 2025—Georgia’s Independence Day.
The order was awarded “for the defense of democratic values, citizens’ rights, peace, and human rights, as well as for supporting Georgia’s European future.”
Maia Sandu also congratulated the Georgian people on Independence Day.
“Moldova expresses solidarity with the Georgian people, supports their struggle for sovereignty and democracy, and stands with them in their pursuit of a European future,” Sandu stated.
Zourabichvili thanked the President of Moldova on behalf of the Georgian people, stating that she views the award not as personal recognition, but as support for the entire Georgian society and as a sign of solidarity between the two nations.

According to her, Georgia remembers that Moldova supported the country even during the most difficult times.
Later, Zourabichvili wrote of Sandu that she “firmly supports the Georgian people in our existential fight for a European future,” adding that Moldova’s solidarity strengthens Georgian society, and that the joint stance of the two countries is a signal that their democratic choice can neither be restricted nor called into question.
