Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has ordered an investigation following a leak at the Avlabari metro station during severe weather. According to him, a situation where it was “pouring inside the station just like outdoors” is unacceptable and demands a response.
Speaking at a Tbilisi government meeting, Kaladze stated that the Audit Service and deputy mayors would conduct the inquiry. They are tasked with determining who is responsible for the issue—the contractor, the accepting party, or the supervisory body.
He noted that the station had previously been in a state of disrepair and underwent rehabilitation a few years ago, but during the recent heavy rains, water began leaking inside, causing serious inconvenience to passengers.
“Such an irresponsible attitude is categorically unacceptable. This harms all of us—including me personally. People do not talk about the company; they talk about City Hall,” Kaladze emphasized.
The mayor emphasized that the matter would not go unaddressed. If any violations are uncovered during the investigation, the authorities promise to take further action. Kaladze also reminded that companies working under municipal contracts are obligated to deliver quality of work built to last “for decades.”
