Papuna Lotsulashvili, who was beaten by police in Gori, has been hospitalized again due to deteriorating health. According to his family, the 29-year-old man experienced severe headaches and lost consciousness twice. As a result of the incident, Lotsulashvili sustained multiple bruises and a fractured rib.

According to lawyer Lasha Tkesheladze, after an examination at the clinic, the victim was admitted to the neurology department. He will remain there until the causes of his deteriorating condition are determined.

Manana Lobjanidze, a doctor at the First University Clinic, told journalists that Lotsulashvili’s loss of consciousness was caused by severe pain:

“He was at the Vivamedi clinic, where he underwent medical examinations, but the patient refused to remain in the hospital and discharged himself. While at home, his condition deteriorated.”

On May 27, regional media outlet qartli.ge published footage showing several police officers beating Papuna Lotsulashvili in the Kombinati settlement in Gori. Following the incident, the man was detained, but he soon left the temporary detention facility and was hospitalized.

A criminal case has been opened against the victim. He is being prosecuted under Article 353 (Resistance, threat, or violence against an officer protecting public order or another representative of authority). The man faces house arrest, a fine, or imprisonment for a term of two to six years.

At the same time, six Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) officers have also been detained as part of the investigation. The Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation against them under Article 333, Part 3, Subparagraph “b” of the Criminal Code of Georgia. This provision covers abuse of official authority involving violence or the use of weapons, carrying a prison sentence of five to eight years.
