According to information reported by the Imedi TV company, the individual previously detained by the State Security Service of Georgia (SGB) on espionage charges is Georgian analyst Gulbaat Rtskhiladze, the founder and head of the Eurasian Institute. The TV company states that this information has already been confirmed by the SGB.
Earlier, Deputy Head of the SGB Lasha Magradze announced at a press conference that the detainee was linked to the intelligence services of two foreign states. The accused is the founder and head of a non-governmental organization.
“On the instructions and with the funding of foreign intelligence services, the accused created information platforms and organized various events across the country to carry out the relevant activities.
Notably, the accused simultaneously cooperated with the intelligence services of two foreign states, conducting parallel intelligence activities.
The investigation is being conducted under Part 1 of Article 314 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a prison sentence of 8 to 12 years,” Lasha Magradze stated.
