In the murder case of teacher Giga Avaliani, convicted minor Demetre Chikovani has been sentenced to 9 years and 9 months in prison, while Ani Naskidashvili was sentenced to 5 years and 3 months. The verdict was delivered by Tbilisi City Court Judge Demetre Djindjolia.
The court found Demetre Chikovani guilty of preparation for the intentional infliction of grave bodily harm committed by a group of persons, and Ani Naskidashvili of failure to report an especially grave crime.
The court initially sentenced Chikovani to 13 years in prison and Naskidashvili to 7 years, but under the Juvenile Justice Code, the sentences were reduced by one-fourth.
Demetre Chikovani is already serving a sentence of 6 years and 9 months for a violent incident in Digomi. Consequently, he will spend a total of 9 years and 9 months in a penitentiary facility.
Along with him, Alexander Gabashvili and Georgi Rikadze were convicted in this case, each receiving a sentence of 10 years and 6 months in prison.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, evidence presented in court established that in September 2025, Alexander Gabashvili, along with Georgi Rikadze and Demetre Chikovani, pre-planned a group attack on Giga Avaliani.
The Prosecutor’s Office stated that on the evening of September 29, 2025, Alexander Gabashvili, Georgi Rikadze, and Demetre Chikovani arrived at a training center located in the “Morskoy Poselok” (Sea District) neighborhood of Tbilisi with the intent of committing an assault. They set up an ambush and created all the necessary conditions for the attack, but were unable to carry out their intent due to circumstances beyond their control.
«On October 1, 2025, in accordance with the plan developed by Alexander Gabashvili, Georgi Rikadze, and Demetre Chikovani, Alexander Gabashvili and Georgi Rikadze launched a joint attack on Giga Avaliani, who sustained severe bodily injuries and subsequently died in a medical facility on October 24, 2025.
Despite the fact that Ani Naskidashvili was aware of the preparation and commission of an especially grave crime, she failed to report it to law enforcement,» the Prosecutor’s Office stated.
The court found Demetre Chikovani guilty under Article 18 and Part 3 of Article 117 (subparagraph “l”) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which covers preparation for the intentional infliction of grave bodily harm committed by a group of persons, carrying a penalty of up to 13 years in prison.
Ani Naskidashvili was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 376 of the Criminal Code of Georgia — failure to report an especially grave crime, which is punishable by up to 7 years in prison.
