In the case concerning the attempted so-called coup d’état—the “storming case”—on October 4 near the palace of the President of Georgia on Atoneli Street, the prosecution is finalizing a plea agreement with seven detainees under one of the case’s episodes.
Case prosecutor Lasha Tskvitaria stated that several individuals had pleaded guilty and repented, which is why a plea agreement will be concluded with them.
Once the court approves the deal reached between the parties in the coming days, the defendants will be released directly from the courtroom, and the prosecution will hand down a sentence of a three-year suspended term.
Under this episode, the following individuals out of the 12 detainees will be released:
- Aleksandre Khabeishvili;
- Beka Kelekhsashvili;
- Giorgi Mumladze;
- Mamuka Labuchidze;
- Guriel Karjava;
- Avtandil Surmanidze;
- Temur Kurtsikidze.
As a reminder, on October 4, 2025, protests took place near the palace of the President of Georgia on Atoneli Street in Tbilisi, which the authorities classified as an attempted violent seizure of power or a “coup d’état.”
According to the official version, a group of protesters attempted to break through to the secured area and clashed with the police. As a result, more than 60 people were detained under various episodes, after which criminal proceedings began: some of the suspects were arrested, some cases were separated into individual episodes, and subsequently, the prosecution began concluding plea agreements—that is, guilty plea deals—for some of them.
The opposition and some human rights activists claimed that these actions by the authorities constituted politically motivated detentions amid anti-government protests.
