Georgian Minister of Health Mikheil Sarjveladze shared details of a meeting with the parents of children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. According to Sarjveladze, he and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze explained to the parents who came to the government administration that the authorities are seeking ways to find a solution to the problem as quickly and effectively as possible.
Sarjveladze noted that there are significantly fewer questions regarding two of the drugs under discussion, but “all of this absolutely requires a very detailed analysis.” According to the minister, “as soon as a decision is ready to be made, it will be made without any delay.”
“Making decisions on these issues is not easy. We are talking about four types of drugs, for which the status, current situation, attitude, potential, and even readiness to make a decision are at completely different stages.
Of the drugs mentioned, there are fewer questions about two of them, and more about the others, and so on. Naturally, all of this requires a very thorough analysis.
We also discussed issues related, for example, to the misuse of this topic by politicians and similar matters.
Naturally, it was emphasized that, first and foremost, we are unequivocally committed to finding solutions as quickly and effectively as possible that will be truly beneficial to every patient, for whose sake such decisions must be made.
We will likely have another such meeting in the near future. The discussion of these issues will continue, and, as was said at the beginning, the moment a decision is ready to be made, it will be made without any delay,” Mikheil Sarjveladze stated.
