“The US State Department has confirmed what we have been saying regarding a reset in relations,” says Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili. Earlier, the US Embassy in Georgia reported on the outcomes of the State Department delegation’s visit to Georgia on May 25–28 and their meetings with the Georgian government and opposition party leaders. According to the embassy’s statement, following their meeting with the Georgian government, the delegation members noted that they had conveyed the Trump administration’s readiness for constructive, future-oriented relations with the Georgian government.
“In its statement, the State Department delegation focused on two issues. First, it is the confirmation of shared values that we have been talking about all this time. It was this very visit, the meetings held, the alignment of positions on value-based issues, and this statement that confirmed that we share common values.
Second, it is shared interests—whether economic or of another nature—the mutual recognition of each other’s interests, the search for common interests, and reaching agreements on them.
This is exactly what we were talking about when we declared our readiness for a reset in relations, which will be based on the national interests of both nations. The delegation’s statement confirms precisely this—our approaches and our vision of bilateral relations in this direction have been realized, including based on the content of this statement,” Papuashvili said.
According to the embassy, the US looks forward to working with the Georgian government toward a partnership that will bring tangible benefits to both countries and fully realize the potential of bilateral relations.
As for the assessments expressed after the State Department delegation’s meetings with opposition party leaders, according to them, political stability and genuine representation of the opposition are factors that make Georgia a reliable partner for American investment, security cooperation, and long-term strategic partnership.
