The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged a detained suspect in connection with a car plunging into the Mtkvari (Kura) River. According to the agency, the driver, 36-year-old Razhden Chinchaladze, and his vehicle, which plunged into the river on June 2, are still being sought.
Following a motion by the prosecution, the court ordered the accused to be remanded in custody as a preventive measure.
“According to the prosecutor’s office, an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that on June 2, on the left bank in Tbilisi, a Mercedes traveling along the road collided with a Hyundai. The driver of the Hyundai lost control, crossed into the oncoming lane, where the Hyundai collided with another vehicle and consequently plunged into the Mtkvari River. The search for the driver is still ongoing.
The detainee has been charged under Article 276 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (‘Violation of traffic safety or vehicle operation rules resulting in death’), which carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison,” the statement reads.
