Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking on the day of the country’s parliamentary elections, stated that he is confident in a peaceful future for the South Caucasus, noting that Armenia has peaceful relations with Azerbaijan and deep relations with Georgia.

Pashinyan emphasized that cooperation between the countries of the South Caucasus is important and expressed hope for the further normalization of relations with Turkey.

“I am confident in our peaceful regional future because, fortunately, we have peace with Azerbaijan and very deep relations with Georgia. I expect the establishment of diplomatic relations with Turkey. I am confident that in the near future, railway and road routes with Turkey will also be opened. The TRIPP project is a game-changing project capable of bringing benefits to all countries in our region. It is beneficial to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, and Iran,” the politician stated.

The Armenian Prime Minister also addressed the issue of relations with the Russian Federation, noting that he does not consider them strained. He stated that relations between Yerevan and Moscow have a “deep institutional foundation and are built on mutual respect.”

Pashinyan added that some forces in Armenia are trying to make relations between the two countries tense. Although the politician does not believe this is because “we have very close relations with the President of Russia.”

As a reminder, parliamentary elections are underway in Armenia. On the home stretch are 18 political forces — two blocs and 16 parties. Currently, 2,485,851 Armenian citizens are eligible to vote.
