The Iranian Ambassador to Georgia, Seyed Ali Mojani, commented on the passage of the “Countering China’s Control of the Caucasus Act” bill by the US House of Representatives. “No country should allow itself to dictate to other nations with whom and how they should build relationships,” the Iranian diplomat wrote on social media.

“When officials of any country attempt to judge or determine how other states should build their relations and cooperation, a natural question arises: where is the line between international cooperation and interference in the internal affairs of independent states?

Today’s world, more than ever, needs mutual respect, recognition of the diversity of states’ foreign policy choices, and respect for the right of nations to independently choose their political and economic partners. No country should allow itself to dictate to other nations with whom and how they should build relationships.

The People’s Republic of China is one of the most important economic powers of the modern world. A significant portion of global trade and supply chains is linked to China. In this context, the Middle Corridor and Georgia’s strategic role in connecting Asia and Europe represent an important example of mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation. Such cooperation must be based on the free choice of states, rather than political pressure.

The experience of recent decades has shown that unilateral sanctions, political pressure, interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and the disregard of state sovereignty not only fail to contribute to international stability and security, but often further exacerbate existing crises.

The modern world is no longer the world of past centuries. Nations have greater awareness, greater independence, and the right to make their own choices. Successful foreign policy is based on respect, dialogue, cooperation, and shared interests, rather than pressure, threats, and imposing one’s will on others.

Only through respecting the right of every nation to life, development, and independence is it possible to create a safer, more stable, and more just world,” Ali Mojani wrote.
