Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has stated that his visit to Kyrgyzstan is of historic significance and is expected to give a new impetus to the development of relations between the two countries. He made the statement following a meeting with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. According to Kobakhidze, despite the long-standing friendly ties between the peoples of the two states, the current visit marks the first high-level contact in the history of bilateral relations.
“We had a very interesting and substantive discussion with our colleagues on bilateral cooperation. We also discussed various issues on the regional and international agenda. In addition, a joint statement by the President of Kyrgyzstan and the Prime Minister of Georgia was signed, along with a number of bilateral documents that will create favorable conditions for further deepening our cooperation.
I would like to thank our friends for the warm welcome at the highest level. This year, Kyrgyzstan celebrates the 35th anniversary of its independence, and I sincerely congratulate you and the Kyrgyz people, wishing you peace and prosperity. I also express my gratitude for your firm, unconditional, and consistent support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Kobakhidze said.
Particular attention during the talks was paid to the development of trade and economic ties. Kobakhidze noted the significant potential for expanding cooperation and welcomed the holding of the second meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two countries, which took place in Bishkek alongside the visit.
The parties also discussed cooperation within international organizations. Kobakhidze congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028, calling it a major diplomatic achievement for the country.
The development of transport and logistics routes was a separate topic of discussion. According to the Georgian Prime Minister, the development of the Middle Corridor, which connects Asia and Europe, is of particular importance. He also noted the significance of implementing the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project, which, in his view, will help strengthen transport connectivity between Central Asia and the Caucasus region.
“Georgia continues to invest in the development of its transit potential, which will foster the growth of trade and economic ties between our countries and regions,” Kobakhidze emphasized.
In addition, the parties discussed prospects for deepening cooperation in tourism. It was noted that launching direct flights between Georgia and Kyrgyzstan could help increase tourist flows and strengthen humanitarian ties between the two nations.
In conclusion, Kobakhidze invited the President of Kyrgyzstan to pay an official visit to Georgia and expressed confidence that bilateral relations would develop even more dynamically in the coming years.
