Representatives of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture have visited Levan Khabeishvili, Chairman of the Political Council of the United National Movement party, in a penitentiary facility.
According to lawyer Lasha Tkesheladze, the main topics of the meeting were Khabeishvili’s allegations of abduction, possible ill-treatment, and, in his assessment, politically motivated imprisonment.
“The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment is interested in ensuring that justice and human rights are respected in Georgia,” the lawyer stated.
