Ministry of Health in Talks with Pharmaceutical Companies over Duchenne Drugs

Zakro Gvishiani, the parent of a child with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, stated that they had received word from the Ministry of Health of Georgia that the agency is working daily to ensure children receive the medication as quickly as possible.

According to him, following the government’s decision regarding two medications, the parents met twice with the Minister of Health and his team.

Gvishiani noted that the Ministry of Health is negotiating with pharmaceutical companies, and a final decision will be made in the near future.

«One meeting was initiated by the Ministry of Health, and the second was at our initiative. We received information that the Ministry of Health is working on a daily basis, doing its utmost to ensure that the process does not drag on and that we receive the medications in the shortest possible time.

In this regard, the Ministry of Health is negotiating with pharmaceutical companies; accordingly, a final decision will be made in the near future,» Gvishiani said.
