The Georgian Ombudsman, Levan Ioseliani, is presenting his annual report to the Parliament of Georgia. A significant portion of the document is dedicated to the monitoring of protest actions in 2025 and the response to rights violations.

The Public Defender stated that by the time of the report’s presentation, representatives of the Ombudsman’s office had visited a total of 573 people detained at protests.

Of these:

According to him, between March 1, 2025, and February 20, 2026, representatives of the Ombudsman visited 131 people detained at protests in temporary detention centers and penitentiary institutions.

Of these, 35 people (26.7%) reported alleged ill-treatment by police officers, and injuries were recorded in 17 detainees.

“In 2025, compared to 2024, the number of activist detentions and cases of alleged ill-treatment of protesters decreased, which is largely due to the reduced scale of the protests. Nevertheless, a number of detainees still reported ill-treatment, including degrading treatment,” Ioseliani’s report states.
