In Tbilisi’s First Maternity Hospital, 35-year-old Nino passed away due to post-operative complications. The family of Nino Mudzhiri is demanding that the clinic’s medical staff be held accountable.

A relative of the deceased said that the doctor who performed the “medical procedure” on her had previously been stripped of her license and was “seeing patients on the side during the evening hours.”

The family also possesses correspondence between Nino Mudzhiri and the doctor, in which the patient reported having a viral infection and a high fever; despite this, “the surgery was performed under anesthesia.”

The family claims that after the procedure, the patient’s condition suddenly deteriorated, she fell into a coma, and spent six months in intensive care.

“This is not about a mistake — it is a deliberate medical crime. This medical procedure, which 90% of women undergo, lasts 15 minutes, and after just an hour, a person goes home. But it was performed by a doctor (Ekaterina Gagua – Ed.) who was stripped of her license and has absolutely no right to even give injections. She works as a manager at this clinic. She has gone into hiding and has not shown up in her office for two days — she was secretly and unofficially seeing patients during evening hours. Her license has been temporarily suspended, and she also has a suspended sentence. That is already a crime in itself. We have the deceased’s phone, where everything is recorded,” a family representative stated.

He added that Nino Mudzhiri had written to Ekaterina Gagua about having a fever, and the doctor gave her medical instructions and prescribed an antibiotic.

On January 12 of this year, when the young woman came for a consultation, Gagua, as the relative stated, “weighed the life of a 35-year-old woman against money. Everyone knows that anesthesia must not be administered during a viral infection.”

It is also known that Gagua herself, who the family claims performed the surgery, stated that she did not do it, but rather “another person” did.

“Her fingers were blue, there were spots on her body, no pulse could be felt, her eyes were motionless, and she was connected to life support. Her body was stiff; she was already virtually dead.

The young woman spent six months in intensive care. We were unable to achieve any results. …They ruined her, they killed her. The doctor who performed the surgery still claims she didn’t do it. Who should I demand answers from? The clinic director? Fine, I am sitting here in the office, but he slipped away and left because I am demanding the doctor be held accountable,” the Mudzhiri family states.
