Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee and “Georgian Dream” MP, stated that the authors of the Council of Europe (CoE) resolution and those who vote for the document “have no desire to cooperate or engage in dialogue with the Georgian authorities.”
According to him, given the substance of the document, it is obvious that the visit of CoE representatives to Georgia yielded no results, and “their demand for Georgia’s return to PACE no longer has any justification.”
The initial version of the resolution, Samkharadze noted, does not reflect the changes that have taken place in Georgia over the past year.
“This resolution completely refutes the statements made to us at various parliamentary forums by PACE representatives, who claim they want the Georgian delegation to return to work in PACE.
The draft resolution states that PACE reaffirms the January 2025 resolution, and it was precisely this resolution that caused us to suspend our participation in PACE’s work.
Consequently, the entire point of their demands for Georgia’s return to PACE is lost and no longer has any justification.
A year and a half has already passed since January 2025, and after all this time they are reaffirming the old formulations once again. Based on this, we will make decisions guided by the interests of our country, and, of course, this decision will be that we will not return to PACE until the credentials of our delegation are fully and unconditionally recognized by PACE,” Samkharadze concluded.
