Peskov Rejects Possible Annexation of Tskhinvali to Russia

dmitriy peskov News

Dmitry Peskov, head of the press service of the President of the Russian Federation, responded to a question regarding the possible annexation of the Tskhinvali region.

A journalist asked whether the change of the so-called leadership of the occupied region of Georgia could be linked to the process of its possible annexation.

“No, it cannot,” Peskov stated.

As a reminder, on June 23, Alan Gagloev announced that he was leaving his “post” as the de facto leader of the Tskhinvali region. The decision was “made” following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Following this, according to the “constitution” of the occupied region, starting from 3:00 PM on June 23, the temporary acting “leader” became Marat Kambolov—a Russian citizen who had worked in the Russian government and was appointed “prime minister” of the Georgian region just days earlier.
