In Georgia, a website featuring grocery discounts under the “Family Basket” program has been launched , allowing users to find the best food prices across various retail chains.

The website was presented by the Agency for Competition and Consumer Protection of Georgia (www.ekalata.gov.ge), which noted that the digital basket will allow the country’s residents to find the best deals and prices on basic food products in various stores using a one-stop-shop principle.

“The website www.ekalata.gov.ge will feature the best prices for 13 basic food items across 12 of the largest retail chains. Users will be able to compare product costs and receive information on the most advantageous offers. Additionally, citizens can search for products by category, find out where they can buy them on the best terms, and build their own shopping basket, which will display the total cost of the selected items,” the agency stated.

The goal of the platform is to increase consumer awareness and ensure greater transparency of market offers.

How does it work?

All retail chains in Georgia participating in the “Family Basket” program are required to provide the agency with weekly information on the best offers and prices for basic products.

The data will be regularly updated on the information portal.

In the future, information about the best offers will be distributed through various broadcasting channels, including television.

There are also plans to launch a dedicated mobile application.

As a reminder, as part of an initiative by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, an interim parliamentary commission studying the pricing structure of food, medicines, and fuel conducted a study of the FMCG sector.

A comprehensive package of recommendations for developing competition was prepared, including short-, medium-, and long-term measures.

The Agency for Competition and Consumer Protection of Georgia has been monitoring the FMCG market since 2023 to assess the level of competition.

In 2025, according to the agency, the FMCG market volume reached 14 billion lari, with the organized market accounting for a 64% share.
