Georgian Prime Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has declared corruption in the highest echelons of power to be “fundamentally eradicated and defeated.” “This is one of the most important results of the Georgian government’s work over the past year,” Kobakhidze said during his annual report at a plenary session of parliament.
“Over the past year, the management system within the Georgian government has significantly improved, and this has been the main turning point for the country in this area. Personnel changes directly affected the government and its associated agencies. I would like to specifically note that an efficiency department was established within the Georgian government, which is actively engaged in optimizing expenditures.
In 2025, as a result of its work, government programs and procurement worth 115 million lari were reviewed, saving more than 67 million lari. These funds will be directed toward the country’s development.
In 2026, direct savings from the department’s work amounted to 67 million lari, while savings from adjusted tenders resulting from monitoring reached 34 million lari, totaling 101 million lari for the year.
This is one concrete example of how much the approach to state governance has changed. As is well known, the Georgian government operates with complete transparency, all government acts are published, and transparency is one of the best tools for combating any negative phenomena.
Overall, everything was aimed at eradicating corrupt practices in the management system, and I can confidently state that over the past year we have largely achieved this goal. I also challenge anyone, opponent or otherwise, to present at least one instance of corruption during this reporting period, starting from June last year. And, of course, each of us bears full responsibility for this.
Corruption in the highest echelons of power has been fundamentally defeated. Of course, the fight against corruption must be ongoing, especially at the lower levels, and the government will not ease its focus on this area. Once again, I want to emphasize: corruption in the highest echelons of power has been eradicated and defeated, and this is one of the key results of the government’s work over the past year,” — Kobakhidze stated.
