The Special Penitentiary Service of Georgia has agreed to transfer the convicted leader of the “Droa!” (“It’s Time!”) party, Elene Khoshtaria, to the Vivamed clinic. The decision was made following a meeting between the Director General of the Penitentiary Service, Giorgi Pataridze, and Khoshtaria’s doctors, Maka Ioseliani and Ani Kavtaradze.

He noted that the parties agreed that Khoshtaria would be transferred to a civilian clinic in about two days, where she will undergo additional examinations under the supervision of her doctors.

Khoshtaria’s attending physician, Maka Ioseliani, stated that the opposition politician would undergo all necessary examinations and specialist consultations at the clinic, and treatment would begin after a full evaluation in accordance with international guidelines.

Ioseliani noted that the Penitentiary Service also agreed that, if necessary, the doctors would be able to start therapy with disease-modifying biological drugs.

The first injections are planned to be administered at the Vivamed clinic, after which a decision will be made regarding Khoshtaria’s return to prison.

The doctor also noted that foreign specialists would be able to participate in the treatment process if necessary, with no restrictions on their involvement.

Pataridze himself stated that the decision is in the best interests of the convict and was the result of a dialogue with her doctors. He noted that the doctors had previously suspected that Khoshtaria might have a specific medical condition.

Pataridze pointed out that the necessary laboratory tests had been conducted multiple times, but this diagnosis was not confirmed.

In addition, the head of the Penitentiary Service criticized public statements and “speculation” surrounding Khoshtaria’s health, noting that they have a negative impact on the situation and do not contribute to constructive cooperation.
