The opposition party “Gakharia for Georgia” is demanding an immediate investigation into the brawl in the Georgian parliament on June 26. This was stated by Berdia Sichinava, a member of the political force.

The party states that on June 26, “Georgian Dream” MPs committed a “pre-planned group crime” against other deputies, which took place in the presence of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Internal Affairs, and the Prosecutor General of Georgia.

Sichinava noted that law enforcement agencies have not yet launched an investigation, despite three days having passed since the incident.

“Gakharia for Georgia” points out that, under Georgian legislation, a group assault on an MP in the line of duty carries a penalty of up to 12 years in prison. Meanwhile, apologies offered by the MPs cannot replace legal liability.

Berdia Sichinava criticized the authorities for persecuting citizens for expressing dissenting views, while violence has become systemic—referring to the case of journalist Mzia Amaglobeli and other citizens.

“We once again demand the immediate launch of an investigation into the incident and the adoption of appropriate legal measures. The fact remains: ‘Georgian Dream,’ having failed in the fight against rising prices, drug addiction, corruption, occupation, and on the international stage, no longer possesses the intellectual resources, arguments, or competence to confront the truth without resorting to violence and imprisoning citizens,” Sichinava stated.

The opposition politician emphasized that the party will continue to push for an investigation, despite being certain that even if one is launched, the case may be closed without results, adding that in the future, all those responsible “will inevitably face criminal liability.”
