Tsotne Ivanishvili, the son of the founder of Georgian Dream, has reacted to the June 26 brawl in the Georgian parliament between MPs from Georgian Dream and Gakharia for Georgia.

Ivanishvili Jr. stated that the incident had caused serious damage to Georgia’s image.

“It was painful for anyone who loves Georgia to watch what happened. This has had a very negative impact on our country’s image,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Tsotne Ivanishvili claimed that it was the MPs from the Gakharia for Georgia party who initiated the verbal and physical provocation, which subsequently escalated into a fight.

“There is no point in trying to find out who hit whom and how hard. The fact remains that the provocation came from members of Giorgi Gakharia’s party. If you saw the footage, you might have noticed that very harsh insults were hurled,” he said.

The billionaire’s son pointed out that similar incidents occur in the parliaments of other countries, including Japan, South Korea, and several European nations. However, they only cause regret and, according to him, do not always become the subject of an investigation.

Speaking about calls for an investigation, Tsotne Ivanishvili stated that he considers such “excessive” attention to the matter to be “a bit ridiculous,” as such clashes, in his view, are not uncommon in parliaments across the world.
