The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged Giorgi Malania, the son of a former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, in connection with the murder of Giga Avaliani. He is accused of aiding the organizers of the attack by providing information about the victim.
The agency states that Malania, who was a student of Avaliani, provided the defendants in the case with the victim’s home and work addresses, as well as his work schedule and the route he took to return home.
Following this, the attackers began tracking the young teacher and planned the assault.
According to investigators, in September 2025, Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, and Demetre Chikovani planned the attack on Giga Avaliani in advance. They attempted to set an ambush on September 29 but failed to execute the plan.
On October 1, Gabashvili and Rikadze attacked Avaliani, who sustained severe injuries and died in the hospital on October 24, 2025.
Giorgi Malania was detained on July 1 of this year. He has been charged with aiding and abetting the intentional infliction of grave bodily harm committed by a group of persons, and faces up to 13 years in prison.
The Prosecutor’s Office intends to petition the court to remand the accused in custody.
The agency noted that Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, and Demetre Chikovani have already been convicted in this case, while the investigation is ongoing.
