Giorgi Malania, the son of Georgia’s former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs (MVD), who is accused in the murder case of teacher Giga Avaliani, has been remanded in custody as a preventive measure.
Malania is charged with aiding and abetting the intentional infliction of grave bodily harm committed by a group of individuals. He is being prosecuted in a case severed into separate proceedings concerning the murder of Avaliani.
The hearing at the Tbilisi City Court was held behind closed doors, as Giorgi Malania is a minor.
The defendant himself was also present at the court hearing.
